The Nursing Program at Ft. Lauderdale's City College

chicago nursing studentCity College was established in 1984 as a branch campus of Draughon’s Junior College of Business in Paducah, Kentucky.  Since then, City College has become an independent, non-profit, degree-granting institution with campuses in Tampa, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  It remains a career-focused college, but is also committed to academic excellence.  The college is proud of the ethnic and cultural diversity of both faculty and students and of its small size and family atmosphere.

City College’s primary concern is to make their students successful, and they seek to do that in every way possible.  The school’s most distinctive characteristics are personal attention, caring faculty and attention to the individual student’s needs.  Students are not reduced to an admission number or a face at the back of a large classroom.  In fact, the campus is designed to limit the number of students in any class or learning situation, so that instructors can provide individualized help and personal attention to each person.

Another way City College assists students to meet their educational goals is by providing flexible scheduling with day and evening classes.  Some are even offered online.  Students can also demonstrate prior learning and life experience and earn credit for it by testing.

About the Nursing Program

City College offers nursing at the Ft. Lauderdale campus.  It is a 7-term program that prepares students to take the NCLEX-RN exam and to become Registered Nurses.  Students learn in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings and acquire both the theoretical concepts relevant to nursing and practical, hands-on application of the nursing process.  The program focuses on holistic, wellness-oriented concepts and principles and promotes critical thinking and clinical decision-making.

Nursing students learn basic nursing concepts and fundamentals, pharmacology and nursing care of clients across the age span and wellness spectrum.  Clinical rotations include medical-surgical areas, pediatrics, obstetrics and critical care.
